Cullen calls border closure idiotic and irresponsible

The tiny border crossing between Stewart BC and Hyder Alaska was brought up once again in Parliament today.

Nathan Cullen, NDP MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley lambasted the Tories for closing the crossing for 8 hours a day, calling it an idiotic and irresponsible decision.

Cullen added that if the NDP were in power, the border crossing would stay open all the time.

MP Roxanne James, the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Public Safety, responded that it’s not feasible to pay a highly trained border services officer to stand at an unused border crossing.
