Nathan Cullen’s bill to ban crude oil supertankers off the BC North Coast was up for debate in the House of Commons Monday.
The proposed legislation, if passed, would effectively kill the Enbridge Northern Gateway project.
The Skeena-Bulkley Valley NDP MP issued a challenge to Conservative MPs from BC.
Prince George-Peace River Conservative MP Bob Zimmer says the bill would limit Canada’s ability to diversify energy exports with countries other than the U.S.
A vote on the bill is scheduled for Wednesday night.
Cullen says he expects it to receive support from his own party, the Liberals, Green, as well as independent MPs.
