Nathan Cullen says many were expecting bad news about salmon returns in the Skeena, but yesterday’s DFO recreational closure announcement is as bad as it gets.
The Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP says he plans to meet with the federal fisheries minister regarding possible of compensation for those affected by the closure.
Local fishery and lodge experts are also speaking out about the effects the decision will have on their businesses and on tourism in the area.
Cullen says there has to be a plan from DFO to restore stocks in the medium and long-term so there doesn’t have to be these type of sweeping closures.
