Motorists cut off from the Chilcotin and central coast by a major washout west of Williams Lake have another option, but it will add over an hour to the trip.
Drivers can detour around the hazard by taking Soda Creek Road, Buckskin Road, West Fraser (South) Road, and Chilcotin Meldrum Road to Highway 20.
According to DriveBC, the detour will add approximately one hour, 13 minutes to the trip. The alternate route is signed with single lane sections and traffic control. Expect delays.
Highway 20 was severed by a sizeable slide 25 km west of Williams Lake early Monday morning. A driver was rescued from the washout after his vehicle was swept away in the slide.
The transportation ministry says the goal is to have Highway 20 open to traffic by the weekend.
