The Department of Fisheries and Oceans have issued an immediate closure of all harvests of bivalve shellfish in Area 6 for food, social and ceremonial purposes.

DFO says it’s a pre-cautionary closure due to a lapse in sample submissions for the marine biotoxin monitoring program.

Bivalve shellfish are susceptible to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning.

DFO reminds all fishers to check for closures before harvesting.
