It’s been one bad news story after another for Skeena salmon and the people who depend on them this season.
But there is some good news for Skeena sockeye.
Prince Rupert City councillor and United Fishermen and Allied Workers Union President Joy Thorkelson says numbers have increased to the point where DFO has announced a commercial gill net fishery opening for Skeena sockeye off the North Coast.
Thorkelson shared the news with her council colleagues Monday.
DFO has announced an opening for the commercial gill net fishery in Areas 4 and 5 targeting Skeena sockeye Tuesday, Jul 24 from 5:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.
