Driver lucky to be alive after accident near Vanderhoof

Vanderhoof RCMP report there was a serious accident yesterday morning.

At 5:30am the police were called to a two vehicle collision on Highway 16 in the construction zone area by Daigle Pit Road near Brookside Resort.

An eastbound pick-up truck lost control and collided with a westbound tractor trailer unit.

According to witnesses, the semi-driver was able to steer away from the cab of the pick-up, and was fortunate to only hit the rear, causing extensive damage to the box area.

Both vehicles went off-road and into a ravine, but fortunately both drivers appeared to only have sustained minor injuries.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but speed may have been a contributing factor for one of the drivers.

The highway was open to one lane alternating traffic for the next 5-6 hours during the recovery of goods.
