Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit the North Coast

Prince William and his wife, Kate will visit B.C. and Yukon next month between September 24th and October 1st.

Kensington Palace confirms the royal visit begins in Victoria, and stops in Vancouver, Kelowna, Bella Bella, and Haida Gwaii, as well as Whitehorse and Carcross in Yukon.

Peter Lantin is the president of the Council of Haida Nation, and he says they’re honoured to showcase the islands.

Chief Councillor Marilyn Slett of the Heiltsuk Nation says they’re also looking forward to welcoming the royal family to Bella Bella.

The couple’s children, George and Charlotte, are reportedly slated to accompany their parents on their Canadian trip.

  1. Thank you CFNR for indigenous coverage to the Royal Visit to our Territories next month. Heiltsuk remain steadfast in our conviction that the environment shouldn’t be sacrificed to build a healthy coastal economy. One of the guiding principles we follow and instill in others is that our stewardship responsibilities are deeply rooted in Aboriginal Rights and Title (or Heiltsuk laws). Our ancestors and our Hemas have taught us that those rights and responsibilities are integral to our history, our identity, and our future. A key feature of Heiltsuk culture is to look after our lands and oceans – it is an obligation which has been passed down as law for thousands of years.

Keep in touch as the visit draws closer.

    Heiltsuk Nation
