Elections BC says there’s not much they can do amidst requests that they increase the profile of local elections.
Some members of the public have raised concerns that stricter fundraising rules and an earlier election will lead to a low voter turnout.
However, according to Elections BC, the fact that municipal elections are administered locally means that their further involvement would require legislative changes.
The current legislation prevents them from getting as involved in the process as they can with provincial campaigns.
