Funding to help support Emergency Social Services at the community level were released by the province today.
Approximately 2 million dollars has been sent out across 25 projects as part of the second intake of the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
More than 220 thousand of that will go to projects across the north in Smithers, Prince Rupert, Houston, and Stewart, as well as projects undertaken by the Nisga’a Lisims Government and the Bulkley-Nechako and Fraser-Fort George Regional Districts.
Funding from the Emergency Social Services stream of the CEPF will go towards volunteer recruitment, training and retention, and new equipment purchases.
All funding from the CEPF is administered by UBCM as part of a 33.5 million dollar community preparation plan.
Bulkley-Nechako Regional District – Mobile ESS Unit
Total Project Value: $24,864
This project will be setting up a Mobile Emergency Social Services Unit, which will be also be
available to support rural and remote surrounding areas where there is limited ESS capacity.
Fraser-Fort George Regional District – Exercise and Personal Preparedness Messaging
Campaign
Total Project Value: $26,778
This project will conduct an exercise helping to instil personal preparedness amongst residents
with a messaging campaign.
Houston – Increased Capacity Project
Totally Project Value: $37,200
This project will be creating administrative capacity to effectively recruit, train and retain
volunteers for their ESS team, while providing public awareness and engagement activities.
Nisga’a Lisims Government – Capacity Building Project
Total Project Value: $25,000
This project will initiate community engagement sessions for recruitment and training, as well
as acquiring the supplies and a mobile unit for effective ESS delivery.
Prince Rupert – Level 1 Volunteer Recruitment Project
Total Project Value: $14,100
This project will enable the training, recruitment and deployment of a larger team in order to
effectively deliver ESS services.
Smithers, Telkwa REGIONAL APP – Bulkley Valley Program Sustainability & Mobile Storage
Trailer Establishment Project
Total Project Value: $58,555
This project will build additional capacity by acquiring administrative support for planning,
training, recruitment and retention and promoting public awareness along with setting up a
regional mobile storage and response unit.
Stewart — Capacity Building Project: Storage Containers
Total Project Value: $34,769
This project will provide secure and safe storage in designated locations outside of evacuations
zone areas to be able to deliver effective ESS services.
