Opening Reception: “Northern Exposures”
An exhibition of photography and artwork by Ab Morrison-Hayward
Friday, April 6, 2018
The Kitimat Museum & Archives will be hosting an opening reception for the exhibition “Northern Exposures”, photography and artwork by Ab Morrison-Hayward, in the Upstairs Gallery of the Museum.
The Artist will be in attendance to talk about his photos and artwork, and refreshments will be available.
Ab Morrison-Hayward has been working in traditional Northwest Coast Native design for three decades and in photography for twenty-five years. He has spent many years painting and exploring other art forms, incorporating his own traditional design.
About fifteen years ago, he began learning computer graphic design and now works almost exclusively in that format to bring his traditional art to life. Ab’s work explores traditional design with contemporary ideas, whereas his photography focuses on landscapes and wildlife.
This is his first solo exhibit; it is a collection of his First Nations art and photographs taken in Haisla territory and other areas in the north. Morrison-Hayward decided to call this show “Northern Exposures” because it shows his homeland and the many great sights that it offers.
