Fatal collision near Fort St. James

Fatal collision near Fort St. James

There was a fatal collision at approximately 8am this morning, 13km west of Highway 27 near Fort St. James.

Fort St. James RCMP attended the scene and found an eastbound logging truck on Tachie Road had collided with a westbound 2007 black Chevrolet Impala in a corner.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Impala, a 28 year old woman from Nanaimo, died at the scene.

A 41 year old woman from Fort St. James was taken by ambulance to Stuart Lake Hospital where she was treated for her injuries and is expected to recover.

The driver of the logging truck was uninjured.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and the logging truck lost its load.

North District RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene with an RCMP traffic analyst and processed the scene.

Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement also attended, and will assist in the investigation.

Police say alcohol was not a factor, but believe extremely icy road conditions to be a contributing factor.

The names of those involved will not be released by Fort St. James RCMP.

Currently the BC Coroner’s Service has taken conduct of this investigation.
