The Heiltsuk Nation says they are encouraged by the visit of federal ministers to survey the damage of a tug and barge that went aground west of Bella Bella.
Ocean and Fisheries Minister Dominic Leblanc and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould met with officials and surveyed the leaking tug in the Seaforth Channel.
Chief Councillor Marilyn Slett is hoping the visit from the federal government will result in more assistance with the cleanup and recovery.
She hopes the ministers will see the impact of the spill and put a better response plan in place for any accidents that take place in the future.
Slett says she’s touched from the support by neighbouring communities.
She says it will still be some time before the full impact of the incident is known.
