Final arguments begin today in a defamation lawsuit launched by Taseko Mines against the Western Canada Wilderness Committee.
The company is seeking damages for what it says were defamatory and misleading statements about the impact of its proposed New Prosperity gold and copper mine in the Chilcotin.
Joe Foy is Executive Director of the Western Wilderness Committee.
Foy says he’d like to see provincial legislation preventing corporations from trying to put a legal chill on people talking about matters in the public interest.
Leadership of the Tsilhqot’in Nation, who have opposed New Prosperity, are expected to be on hand as the case continues today.
Final arguments in the case are expected to last three days.
