Parks Canada has provided more information about a fire that damaged its flagship vessel on Haida Gwaii Tuesday.
The Gwaii Haanas II was moored at the Queen Charlotte wharf when the harbourmaster noticed it was on fire at 9:45.
Parks Canada says the local fire department and emergency responders were able to get the flames under control and there were no injuries during the incident.
Parks Canada says it is in close contact with government agencies to make sure all known public safety and environmental considerations are taken into account during and after the fire.
Officials say the 17-metre vessel is the workhorse of the Gwaii Haanas fleet and having it out of commission will be a blow to operations.
Fire crews will be conducting an investigation to find out what sparked the flames.
