Tolko says firefighters are still trying to fully put out a fire that began Thursday night at its Lakeview sawmill in Williams Lake.
The flames broke out at about 6:20 and fire crews were still at the seen this afternoon.
Company officials say they don’t yet know the extent of damage to the operation as workers still don’t have access to the interior of the sawmill.
Tolko says more information should be available once the fire is out and structural engineers have had a chance to inspect the affected areas.
For now, the company says the sawmill and planer operations will be shut down and supervisors will be contacting employees with more information as it becomes available.
Tolko’s Lakeview Division employees about 170 full-time staff and casual employees.
