Fire inspector never got fire safety and evacuation plan from mill

A man who inspected a Prince George sawmill in the years before a deadly blast says he repeatedly requested a fire safety and evacuation plan, but never received one.

In a coroner’s inquest yesterday, fire prevention officer Steve Feeney presented a series of reports and followup letters written to Lakeland Mills since his first inspection in 2010.

Feeney testified that he inspected at the mill five months before there was an explosion, and found what he deemed to be excessive amounts of pine wood dust.

In April 2012, a blast rocked the mill, killing Glenn Roche and Alan Little and injuring 21 other workers.
