The Cariboo Fire Centre says one of its Wednesday afternoon patrol flights spotted a wildfire 35 kilometres west of 100 Mile House.
Airtankers were able to surround the flames with retardant, limiting its growth to 0.5 hectares.
Officials say smoke from the fire, located northwest of Snag Lake, may be visible from the surrounding areas.
There are three firefighters and a helicopter on scene with ten more firefighters and two pieces of heavy equipment on the way.
The fire centre says crews have responded to seven new fires in the past two days, although two have already been put out.
Officials say most of the new fire activity has been from lightning last week.
The Cariboo Fire Centre says its fire danger rating is “high” to “extreme” in the region with only a few areas listed as “moderate”.
