Election season officially kicked off yesterday for those seeking municipal government positions in BC.
Hopefuls have until September 14th to submit nomination papers for mayoral, municipal council, or schoolboard positions.
This year’s cycle marks the first for the government’s new campaign finance rules, which ban corporate and union donations, as well as individual donations over 12 hundred dollars, and put a strict limit on candidate and party spending.
However, with the official campaign period kicking off on September 22nd, with elections scheduled for October 20th, third party groups will still have more than two weeks to spend without limits.
