With the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation set to vote on their Treaty agreement in June, another Nation is making their opposition known.
The Northern Shuswap and NStQ have come forward to state their opposition due to a lack of consultation between the Nations.
Spokesmen for the Nations say they are not opposed to the Lheidli T’enneh Nation seeking out the treaty, but they have an obligation to protect the integrity of their historic lands.
They say they are willing to meet to have meaningful discussions.
The NStQ has given notice to the Government of Canada that no vote of treart signing can move forward without meaningful consultation.
