The Red Cross and First Nations Health Authority graduated their last class of the year in the First Nations First Responder program.
The First Responders program is designed to provide local communities with the knowledge, skills and tools required to respond to illness or injury while awaiting the arrival of paramedics or evacuation to more advanced medical care.
Becky Row of the Red Cross says for isolated communities, having people with these skills is invaluable.
She adds that beyond just the training, the First Nation Health Authority provides the communities with equipment and support.
The program saw a record 118 graduates this year.
