Northern BC area First Nations will share in nearly $6.5 million worth of federal funding announced this week.
Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr, who made the announcement at the BC Natural Resources Forum in Prince George, says the money will go towards innovation and diversification in forestry and support collaboration with Indigenous communities.
The Gitxsan Development Corporation will receive over $1.1 million to implement a series of scans and activities to lay the foundation for the participation in resource development, although no specifics were released.
The Kwadacha First Nation will receive a total of $143,000 for two projects, including a combined heat and power bioenergy system.
The Tsay Keh Dene will get $25,000 to assess the feasibility of bioenergy to reduce the reliance of the community on diesel fuel for heat.
Pacific Bioenery received the lion’s share of funding; $3.19 million in funding to implement a Biomass Enhancement System at its Prince George pellet facility.
