Recommendations from a strategy meeting hosted by the First Nations Wild Salmon Alliance have been released.
The group met last month with various stakeholders to discuss the future of wild salmon.
Chief Bob Chamberlin is chair of the organization, and says while 18 recommendations were developed from the meeting, the most important one revolves around the Cohen Commission.
Chief Chamberlin says he’s hopeful the new federal government will adopt the group’s recommendations, saying it paves the way for implementing those from the Cohen Commission.
He adds Federal Fisheries Minister Hunter Tootoo has been given the report, and he’ll be following up with the minister.
They had an earlier meeting to discuss some of the science behind the Cohen report, which Chief Chamberlin says went “very well.”
