BC First Nations leaders will provide reaction to the Mount Polley investigative report Tuesday.
Chief Bev Sellars of the Xat’sull First Nation along with members of the BC First Nations Summit and Union of BC Indian Chiefs will discuss the findings of the panel examining the breach of the mine tailings pond southeast of Quesnel.
A report on the Mount Polley mine breach says that building the dam on top of a sloped glacial lake was like loading a gun and pulling the trigger.
The government-ordered report released this last week says the tailings spill was caused by a poorly designed dam that caused its foundation to fail.
The dam burst last august, sending 24 million cubic metres of mine silt and water gushing into nearby rivers and lakes.
