Fishing license fees will now all go to the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.
In an agreement between the province and the society, 100% of licensing fees will go to the society starting April 1st.
The increase, amounts to approximately $3 million, to a total of $10 million for 2015-16.
Previously the society’s activities were focused primarily on stocking of smaller lakes.
The additional funding will allow the society to work with provincial biologists to improve angling opportunities in small and large lakes, and rivers.
Andrew Wilson is Vice-President of Sport Fishing at the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.
