A Haida Gwaii fishing lodge has been fined $35,000 by the DFO.
The Queen Charlotte Lodge was charged with six violations of possessing fish than a recreational licence allowed.
The violations were discovered during a surprise DFO inspection.
Judge Dwight Stewart handed down a fine of $500 for each of the six charges and an additional fine of $32,000.
The additional $32,000 will go towards enhancing fisheries conservation, habitat rehabilitation, fisheries education or marine mammal research.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says non-profit environmental groups on Haida Gwaii can submit proposals to access that funding.
This is the second fishing lodge on Haida Gwaii in the last 13 months to face major fines for illegal activities.
