B.C.’s Forests Minister says he’s confident the provincial wildfire service acted appropriately in dealing with a blaze near the Great Bear Rainforest over the weekend. Steve Thomson says the fire near Bella Bella was small and no people, homes or other infrastructure was at risk.
Chief Marilyn Slett with the Heiltsuk First Nation says members of the community are frustrated because they had to fight the fire on their own and were unable to get help from provincial government agencies.
Thompson says an official with B.C. Wildfire Service was in “constant contact” with the First Nation after the blaze was reported early Saturday morning.
