Fort St. James RCMP are investigating a weekend homicide in Tachie.
Mounties were called to a stabbing in the Tl’azt’en Nation community 65 km west of Fort St. James at 2:11 a.m. Sunday.
En route to the call, RCMP officers intercepted family members of the 31-year-old Tachie man who were taking him to the nearest hospital. The family gave information to the RCMP, including the name of the suspected attacker. An officer went with family members as they carried on to meet with an ambulance called to the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at hospital.
RCMP arrested a 33-year-old Tachie resident in connection with the stabbing death. Investigators believe the two people knew each other and the community is not at risk.
The North District Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation.
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO BC) has also been notified and are assessing the matter as it relates to the RCMP’s actions and the medical assistance provided to the victim before he died.
RCMP say no other information will be released in order to protect the integrity of the investigation and the IIO assessment.
