Construction has started on a new school in Fort St. John.
The $26.6-million school will be named the Margart “Ma” Murray Community School. The majority of the funding comes from the province with the school district chipping in as well.
One of the main components is a large gym that will also be used as a community space. The city is chipping in 2.5 millions dollars for the gym, saying the community is lacking a proper area to hold community gatherings.
BC Hydro is also contributing 1.8 million dollars for a new day care being built at the school.
The K-5 school is expected to open for the 2018-2019 year.
The province also announced funding for the renovations at École Central Elementary school.
