Late this morning Fraser Lake RCMP were told of a dog that had fallen through the ice at a local pond.
Officers on the scene learned the dog had been in the water for almost an hour and wasn’t doing very well by that point.
Cst. Ray Dickinson managed to find an old paddleboat, which then they tied a rope to.
Using an ice pick, the officer dragged the boat across the ice filled water to the dog.
According to a RCMP statement, the officer arrived just as the dog could no longer struggle against the cold and the water.
After pulling the boat back to shore, officers were able to return Josie, a 6 month old Burmese Mountain Dog over to her guardians.
Fraser Lake Detachment Commander, Sgt. Jason Slater said “police officers deal with a lot of bad stuff.”
But added this was one of those feel good moments that felt like “winning the Grey Cup” in the last few seconds.
