The Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art opened a student exhibit in Kitimat last Friday.
The school teaches First Nation’s art, and is the only program of its type in Canada.
The exhibit shows off the works first and second year art students.
Stan Bevan is one of the instructors.
He says the students come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Bevan says the goal of the program is the teach the students the fundamentals, and hopefully, the artists will grow and develop their own style.
Kristen McKay is one of the second year students. She says taking the program has helped her grow artistically and more.
She says she hopes to get into education, and incorporate her artistic knowledge into her career.
The student’s exhibition is at the Kitimat Museum and Archives until March 28th.
It’ll then move to Prince Rupert, with the last exhibition in Vancouver.
