The District of Kitimat and Haisla Nation are raising a friendship pole in a special ceremony Friday afternoon.
Kitimat Deputy Director Leisure Services Shaun O’Neill says the totem pole symbolizes the relationship between the District of Kitimat and the Haisla Nation.
The pole, which has features symbols of the Haisla Nation, Canada’s 150th anniversary, and the District of Kitimat, was carved by Haisla Nation Hereditary Chief Gary Wilson.
The pole raising ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Christmas Tree Plaza just below Haisla town Centre.
