A totem pole celebrating the relationship between the Haisla Nation and District of Kitimat was erected Friday afternoon.
Carver and Haisla Hereditary Chief Gary Wilson explained some of the symbols to those gathered for the ceremony.
The friendship pole, which also features symbols of the Kitimat mayor and Canada’s 150th birthday, is meant to symbolize the relationship between the two communities of the Kitimat valley.
The pole was raised at Christmas Tree Plaza below Haisla Town Centre.
