Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth says a Northern B.C. mayors delegation on LNG has received a positive reception early in its Ottawa meetings.
Germuth says the mayors will press Ottawa to exempt imported LNG modules from the fabricated industrial steel components or FISC tariffs as they meet with the Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr, and others.
Germuth says such a move could make the difference to the proposed LNG Canada project near Kitimat.
The delegation will also sit down with Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen, who shares their concerns about the tariffs in question.
The seven mayors, including Carol Leclerc of Terrace, and Dale Bumstead of Dawson Creek will wrap up their meetings Thursday.
