The Gitxsan Hereditary Chiefs do not approve of the DFO’s recent decision to allow recreational fishing of certain fish on the Skeena.
The DFO opened up the Skeena River to the recreational catching of Coho and Pinks this week after favourable population results from their Tyee Test Fishery.
According to the Chiefs, however, the data gathered by the Tyee Fishery is unreliable.
As a result, the Chiefs will oppose all permits issued by both the provincial and federal governments in an effort to protect salmon stalks.
