The government has released new guidelines for growing cannabis on Agricultural Reserve Lands ahead of its upcoming legalization.
Effective immediately, the changes will allow First Nations and local governments to have more control over who grows the product on their lands.
Local and Indigenous governments will be able to prohibit cement based, industrial style, cannabis grow-ops on Reserve Lands.
However, they will not be able to deny the operations if: they are in an open field, in a structure with a soil base, a fully constructed structure with proper permits, or an existing licensed operation.
The changes pertain only to Agricultural Land Reserve land.
