Group touring Northern BC discussing how international goals relate to local areas

A group is touring Northern BC talking about international goals and how they relate to residents in local areas.

BC Council for International Cooperation’s Michael Simpson says a lot of the goals set at the United Nations fall on local governments to ensure it’s achieved.

Some of the sustainable development goals include ending poverty and gender equality.

Simpson says with the provincial election coming up, he believes this could be a way for people to decide what issues are important to them and what party will best fit their priorities.

He notes that many of the communities travelled to in Northern BC have similar priorities.

The group will be in Kitimat tonight and in Prince George on Thursday.
