Explosion risks relating to a possible fuel leak have the Ministry of the Environment taking the situation surrounding a graounded barge in Haida Gwaii very seriously.
The luxury fishing barge, operated by Haida Enterprise Corporation ans owned by Westcoast Resorts, ran aground just south of the Village of Queen Charlotte late Saturday night.
High winds are believed to have ripped the barge from its position in Alliford Bay, leading to an apparent ruptured fuel line.
Extraction efforts have been halted for the time being as HaiCo awaits a certified contractor to evaluate the situation.
Haico says that no diesel has leaked from the barge as of yet.
