Officials from one community on Haida Gwaii are looking to crack the whip on those renting their homes to tourists on the island.
The Council of Queen Charlotte have proposed new rules that will only allow home owners to post openings on Air BnB if they can prove someone else lives in the home full time.
On top of that, the Council is aiming to shut down short term apartment rentals and force those renting short term to have available parking and business licenses.
The changes are in response to recent reports that have revealed a lack of long-term available housing despite drops in population.
According to the Mayor of the Village of Queen Charlotte, Greg Martin, the island is in a housing crisis.
