The Chief Councillor of the Haisla Nation has invited Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver to come see the benefits of LNG in the Kitimat region first hand.
In Crystal Smith’s written response to Weaver’s recent essay on LNG, she says her Nation thinks liquefied natural gas projects like LNG Canada strike the right balance between much needed jobs and the environment.
Smith adds she has a tough time hearing from outside interests, including environmental groups, deciding what’s best for the Haisla from a “comfortable seat” in the province’s south.
If Weaver takes her up on the invitation, Smith says she would show him what the LNG industry has done for the Haisla, even before any final investment decision, and the great potential that sits on their doorstep.
LNG Canada is expected to make its FID sometime this year.
