The Hazeltons are currently without their ice arena.
The roof on their former arena was condemned and torn down, creating an outdoor arena.
The community is currently looking for funding to build a new recreation centre that will include an arena, gym, fitness centre, climbing wall, and a walking track for elders.
Funding has reached $5-million says Dr. Peter Newbery who is the director of the Heart of the Hazeltons campaign.
They’re hoping once the federal election is over, the province and Ottawa can chip in the remaining $10-million that’s needed.
In the meantime, there’s a fundraising campaign to help build a temporary arena while funding and construction for the recreation centre is underway.
The Aviva “Hard Up in the Hazeltons” campaign is hoping to raise $100,000, which requires people to vote for their project.

There’s also a video with the kids of Hazelton making their pitch for the funding.
