Health risks due to oil and gas industry low says report

A new report says health risks connected to BC’s oil and gas industry are low.

Health Minister Terry Lake says the report also concludes that the current regulations are protecting public health, but improvements can be made in areas such as groundwater testing and air quality objectives.

The first in this series of reports done in 2012 detailed concerns from residents about their health trouble, including asthma, bronchitis, and cancer, which the report concluded weren’t linked.

West Moberly First Nations Chief Roland Willson is doubtful of the conclusions, saying the investigation overlooked key areas in order to support the expansion of the oil and gas industry.
