UNBC medical and health students are in Prince Rupert as part of it’s travelling road show.
The event kicked off on Haida Gwaii on Monday where they visited elementary and high schools, showing students career opportunities in a wide variety of medical and healthcare fields.
Dr. Shaun Maurice is the Northern Medical Program coordinator for the roadshow.
He says the road show has two purposes, one is to show future medical and health care professionals what life in northern communities can offer.
The second is to showcase and inspire young students to start careers in the healthcare profession.
Dr. Maurice says feedback from the elementary and high school students has been positive.
Medical and health students from the University of Northern BC, the College of New Caledonia, the University of BC, and the University of Victoria participated in the Healthcare Traveling Roadshow.
The road show began in 2010 in a bid to address shortages of healthcare workers in rural communities.
