Northern Health has declared an outbreak of Hepatitis A in a northeast BC community.
The health authority and the BC Centre for Disease Control are monitoring an increase in Hep A cases in Dawson Creek.
Health officials are trying to find out the source of the seemingly unrelated clusters of the viral infection.
Hepatitis A infects the liver and is spread through fecal oral contact.
Northern Health says thorough hand-washing after using the washroom and before touching food or drink is key to preventing the spread of the virus.
A vaccine is also available.
More information about Hepatitis A can be found at the HealthLink BC website.
