Homeless camp catches on fire

Firefighters in Fort St. John are still unsure about what caused a homeless person’s shelter to burn down yesterday afternoon.

Fire Chief Fred Burrows says crews responded to a bush fire in an area known to be used by the homeless community at about 2pm.

He says one shelter caught ablaze somehow and it took about half an hour for firefighters to extinguish it.

Burrows says no one was around except a dog that was tied up nearby, but the canine was able to escape uninjured, after the fire melted its leash and set it free.
