BC Hydro says the risk of a major power outage in the Bulkey Valley has been further reduced.
Hydro Community Relations Manager Bob Gammer says crews were able to complete a rip rap road and get a crane to the site of a transmission tower in the Telkwa River Saturday.
Gammer says a crane is now supporting the 138 kilovolt tower. Hydro was concerned that flooding on the Telkwa River would erode the tower to the point that it might collapse, affecting thousands of customers.
Gammer says the chance of a major outage is now very low, but he says the utility is still advising residents in the region to have a power outage plan to be on the safe side.
He says crews will work throughout the night to armour the area around the transmission tower so that future flooding events won’t threaten the structure.
Hydro says the weather has also been cooperating and river levels continue to drop.
The utility expects to complete all the work by sometime Sunday.
