The Insurance Corporation of B.C. has announced a new policy on windshield damage aimed at lowering the pressure on insurance rates.
The public auto insurer says that starting this spring, it will repair one windshield chip for customers with comprehensive coverage — as long as chip repair is a safe alternative to replacing the entire windshield.
ICBC says repairs today can last substantially longer due to improvements in technology and typically cost under $70 compared to an average cost of $820 for a windshield replacement.
It says that in addition to lowering pressure on insurance rates, the change will also be more convenient for drivers because repairs take less time than replacements.
