The Independent Investigations Office has been called to Prince George to investigate a death in an RCMP cell.
Police say they were called to the 100 block of Quebec Street around 11:30 last night with a report that an intoxicated man was causing a disturbance.
The man was arrested a short time later and transported to the Prince George RCMP cells.
Then around 2 a.m. this morning, the man was found unresponsive during a cell check.
He was later pronounced dead.
The IIO will now investigate if there is a connection between the man’s death and the actions of police. The RCMP has also initiated an Independent Officer Review of the incident according to policies.
