BC’s independent police watchdog won’t be investigating the death of a Quesnel woman in RCMP custody.
The woman died after RCMP were called an assault involving a male and female in the early hours of October 1st. The female, who was the alleged victim, was arrested by police when they discovered she was breaching a court-imposed condition.
After she was examined at the Quesnel RCMP detachment, the woman was treated in local hospital, then a larger hospital, but died the next day.
The Independent Investigations Office sent five personnel to Quesnel where they interviewed civilian witnesses, examined medical reports, video evidence, and 911 reports.
The IIO says its probe revealed no connection between the actions of the RCMP officers and the death of the woman.
It has released jurisdiction of the case.
Quesnel RCMP are continuing to investigate the file.
