Independent Investigations Office continues to look into Granisle police shooting

The Independent Investigations Office reports it’s continuing its investigation into the police shooting in Granisle.

The IIO confirms police were responding to an assault complaint involving neighbours in the April 21st incident

In a statement, the investigative office says a man from the house had an interaction with police and was subsequently shot.

Shortly after, a woman exited the home and was also shot.

The shooting victims have been identified as 39 year old Jovan Williams and his mother, 73 year old Shirley Williams.

The office says both police and non-police issued weapons have been seized and are being examined.

Approximately 100 community members attended a town hall meeting as the IIO gave an update on their investigation.

Investigators will return to Granisle if necessary, and potential witnesses are asked to contact them.

The office investigates cases when police are involved in a death or serious injury.
